Facilitated Support Group
Isolation and alienation are common feelings amongst the women who use our services.
Joining a Support Group, sharing with other women survivors, who understand and
can empathise with what you are feeling, and hearing others talk about their experiences
can be therapeutic, enlightening and uplifting. Being supported to speak out, break
the silence and acknowledge what happened can be a very important part of healing.
The Support Group is a closed group and is facilitated by two qualified and experienced
facilitators. The group is made up of eight women who meet one evening a week for
10 sessions.
Women interested in joining a Survivors Network Support Group should contact the
office, Drop-in or Helpline. You will be asked to attend a short assessment, to
ensure you are suitable for this type of group work, which will also be an opportunity
for you to ask any questions you may have. Group members are asked to contribute
towards the cost of the groups, dependent on circumstances, fees are calculated
on a sliding scale.
Support Group members will be supported to;
- Talk freely about their abuse
- Explore issues in a safe environment
- Share personal stories/experiences
- Integrate memories with feelings
- Express and feel feelings
- Let go of any shame
- Make their own decisions
- Continue with their healing
- Laugh as well as cry
